How to tell if an image is AI-generated
A detector is the fastest check, but it works best alongside your own eyes. Look closely at:
- Hands, teeth and ears: extra or merged fingers, too many teeth, earrings that don't match.
- Text and logos: signs, labels and watermarks that turn into gibberish up close.
- Backgrounds: objects that melt into each other, bent lines, repeating patterns.
- Light and reflections: shadows falling in different directions, eyes with different reflections.
- Skin and hair: skin that looks airbrushed, hair that blends into the background.
Newer generators make fewer of these mistakes, so a clean-looking photo isn't proof it's real. That's where the checker above helps: it looks for patterns in the pixels that you can't see. How AI image detection works.

What your result means
The AI likelihood is a confidence score, not proof. As a rule of thumb:
- High: strong signs of AI generation. Treat the image as fake until you see otherwise.
- In the middle: mixed signals, often from heavy editing, filters or compression. Check other photos from the same person.
- Low: no signs of AI generation. The photo could still be stolen from a real person, so a reverse image search is worth a minute.

Do I need to install an extension?+
No — this page works in any browser with no extension required. If you want right-click detection directly on images as you browse (no uploading), you can install the Chrome extension or Firefox add-on.
How accurate is it?+
No detector is perfect, so every result comes with a confidence score, and that score matters: 90%+ is very reliable, 60–80% is ambiguous and should be treated as one signal alongside other checks. No detector is 100% accurate against the latest models.
Is my image stored or shared?+
No. For URL scans, only the URL is passed to the detection API — we never download or store the image. For file uploads, the image is held in memory during the scan and discarded immediately. Results may be cached for up to 30 days against the same URL for performance.
Why does the URL check sometimes fail for social media images?+
Instagram, X/Twitter, Facebook, and TikTok block cross-origin image fetches. If a URL from one of those sites fails, save the image to your device (right-click → Save image) and upload it using the Upload tab instead — that path works for any image you can save locally.
